Support
Video Delay films your movement and plays it back a few seconds later. A question, a problem, an idea? Write to support@captarget-archery.com. We answer in English and French.
To help us help you quickly, include in your message: your iPhone model, the iOS version, the app version (Settings > General > iPhone Storage > Video Delay), what you were doing, and what happened. A screenshot always helps.
Getting started
- Stand the iPhone on a tripod or a steady support, a few metres away, so that all of you is in the frame. Behind or beside an archer, never in front of the shooting line.
- Tap "Start video delay" and pick the delay, from 3 to 20 seconds. Make your move, turn round: it plays on screen.
- To keep a moment, tap the record button, then tap it again to stop: what you see on the delay is saved to Photos, with the grid, lines and skeleton if they are showing.
- To film a take to analyse, at up to 240 frames per second depending on the iPhone, tap "Start record". Takes are kept in the app's gallery, where they open for review.
For archers
Automatic recording. On the delay, the app watches for your draw and records each arrow to Photos by itself, from just before the bow comes up to just after it comes down. Stay fully in the frame and keep the phone still. These videos are not analysed: for key moments, speed and time at anchor, film in take mode.
Key moments. On every take filmed in take mode, and on a video imported from the photo library, the app finds the setup, the anchor, the string release and the target impact. It can get them wrong, especially if you leave the frame or if the video is cut too early.
Arrow speed. It is worked out from sound. Open "Measure speed" and enter the shooting distance, the distance from the phone to the archer and to the target, and your draw length. For a reliable measurement:
- a distance at which you can hear the arrow land (18 m indoors, yes; 70 m, no);
- the phone on or behind the shooting line, never in front;
- a quiet place, without other archers shooting right beside you;
- keep filming for at least half a second after the impact.
Speed remains an estimate, around ±3 km/h, and an average over the flight, a little below the speed leaving the bow.
Statistics. The Statistics screen brings together speed and time at anchor for each session, from the takes in the gallery. A deleted take leaves them too.
Several angles on a Mac
Up to four iPhones can send their picture to Video Delay on Mac, which shows them side by side, each one delayed.
- On the Mac, open Video Delay and turn on "Discoverable": a four-digit code and a QR code appear.
- On the iPhone, open Settings, "Show on a Mac or iPad", and type the code or scan the QR code.
- No Wi-Fi needed: the devices find each other directly. They must be close, with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on.
- The delay, layers and recording are then set on the Mac.
- The iPhone must stay in the foreground: iOS does not allow filming in the background.
Frequently asked questions
The picture is black, or the app says it needs the camera. Allow it in Settings > Apps > Video Delay > Camera, then reopen the app.
Arrow speed does not show. The microphone must be allowed (Settings > Apps > Video Delay > Microphone), your sport must be archery, and the distances entered. If the app says the value is inconsistent or the sound is ambiguous, another noise covered the arrow, or the distances do not match: check them and shoot another arrow somewhere quieter.
The app says the phone is too hot. Get it out of the sun, take off the case, or plug it in. The app first lowers its quality to keep going, then stops if the heat keeps rising.
240 frames per second does not appear. It only exists on iPhones whose camera supports it.
I cannot find the Mac from the iPhone. Check that "Discoverable" is on on the Mac, that the iPhone has the Local Network permission (Settings > Apps > Video Delay), that both have the same app version, and that the Mac does not already have four cameras.
How do I change sport? In the app's Settings, "My sport".
How do I delete a take? Open it in the gallery and tap Delete. A copy saved in Photos is not touched.
How do I stop sending poorly detected takes? In the app's Settings, turn off "Help improve the model". The queue is emptied. To have a take already sent deleted, write to us with the original video: see the privacy policy.
How do I switch off usage statistics? In the app's Settings, Privacy > Anonymous usage statistics. Off, the app sends nothing; it works exactly the same.
Is the app paid? No. No subscription, no in-app purchase, no account.
Can I analyse a video from my photo library? Yes, from the gallery, "Photo library". Analysis is limited to videos of 60 seconds or less.
